NDIS Assistive Technology Basics (Self-Managed and Plan-Managed)
Assistive technology (AT) is funded to support safety, independence, and everyday function—when it relates to disability needs and goals.
If you’re self-managed, you can usually purchase approved supports and claim them through your NDIS funding, as long as they align with your plan and budgets. If you’re plan-managed, your plan manager can typically pay invoices on your behalf. If you’re NDIA-managed, purchasing pathways can be more restricted, but OT assessment and documentation is still important for decision-making and approvals.
For many AT items, what matters most is having clear evidence: what the problem is, how the equipment helps, and why it’s the right match for your needs. That’s where OT assessment is valuable—especially for more complex items or when an item needs stronger justification.
We primarily support self-managed and plan-managed participants, and we can provide OT assessments and documentation to support equipment decisions and funding requests.
